On December 30, the U.S. Court of Appeals 11th Circuit in Atlanta upheld the tax evasion convictions of a Kent Hovind and his wife, Jo. They were charged with income tax evasion-related charges for failure to properly report income taxes and related documents from their Creation Science Evangelism Enterprises.

According to court documents, Kent appealed his convictions and sentences for failing to collect and pay employment withholding taxes, obstructing tax laws and structuring transactions to avoid reporting laws. Jo Hovind appealed her convictions and sentences for structuring transactions to avoid reporting laws. They challenged the sufficiency of the indictments and the evidence against them; the calculation of loss and the imposition of restitution; and the order of forfeiture of assets.

This is an e-mail that I received today from a Kent Hovind supporter about a petition I created and evolution and faith.

Corey,
I find your enthusiasm to keep a family man in jail for his tax evasion issue a sad commentary.... even for an atheist. I think your motivation is far more than what is purportedly your reason for this absurd petition. I believe it is simply a symptom of a problem.....your problem with the God of the Universe. You understand nothing of this man and the good he has done for many. Your reasoning is also vapid in discerning truth from error. You have a religion as well as Hovind. Faith in a fairy tale called evolution. This fairy tale taught as a fact, which is a boldfaced lie.. As a mathematician I can attest that that it is a mathematical impossibility for organic matter to arise from inorganic matter. An the most learned molecular biologists know as a fact. This lie of evolution is tenaciously clung to by many due to the fact they have an issue with God and cannot face the truth scientifically. The evolutionary model does not even fall into scientific basic rules.....such as repeatable results! Come on get off this ridiculous idea of attempting to prolong this mans incarceration for your own bone to pick with the Author of Life! I am truly hoping you repent of this abberant behavior . What if it was you! Ever made a mistake? Think about it........

Paul,

I am disturbed that Hovind and his supporters do not accept the conviction and that he broke the law. The petition was to show that people will not tolerate this.

My problem is not with God. I am agnostic, meaning I do not know if there is a god.

I have read what Hovind has done and it is not "good." Sure, love the sinner, hate the sin. But, if one does not repent for his failures and crimes, then how is this good? I am working on web site to show how hypocritical some Christians are, Benny Hinn, Pat Robertson, etc.

Evolution is not religion, I have repeated several times on blogs. Evolution does not have adherents. Evolution is fact and does not require a god nor does it rule one out.

You say that it is impossible for organic matter to come from non-organic matter? Does not the Bible say that humans were created from dirt?

It seems to me, that you have problem with reality. Show me evidence of how evolution is wrong and will show you how you are incorrect.

Beware of a wolf in sheep's clothing and please do the research.

Keep Kent Hovind In Jail

I have created a petition asking that Kent Hovind be kept in jail for tax evasion. It is to counter another petition that wants Hovind out of jail.

Currently, I have over 200 signatures in about 12 hours since I mentioned this to one of the blogs I frequently visit. The other petition has less than 50.

This is not an "official" petition, but I want to show that more people do not agree with Kent Hovind.

Kent Hovind would probably say that most of the time, the majority is not right. But, if the majority of people believed that, would they be right?

Also, please refrain from adding fake names and comments to the other petition. There is no need to be immature about this.

Correlations of Religiosity and Societal Health

From The Journal of Religion and Society (2005):

The staudy done by Gregory Paul suggests that higher rates of belief in and worship of a creator correlate with higher rates of homicide, juvenile and early adult mortality, STD infection rates, teen pregnancy, and abortion in the prosperous democracies.

This contradicts Kent Hovind's assertation that evolution and the removal of Lord's Prayer is the downfall of American society, which is inaccurate and outdated.

As for the tax issue, do youself a favor and research the law. The first amendment is very clear in regards to regulating churches. In my opinion the individual income tax is a fraud!!! The IRS unlawfully requires churches to incorperate in order to not pay taxes. This is a clear violation of the first amendment!!! Also, when a church incorperates (501c3 not for profit organization)the IRS list 26 different regulations on that church such as "no public protesting of pornography" or "no promotion of a particular political candidate" or " no telling parents that they HAVE rule over their children above the STATE" Kent Hovind was imprisoned for worshipping JESUS CHRIST instead of the IRS!!!!

I also believe in Brother Hovinds ministry regardless of his tax status. Yes, he is still in prison. He got 10 years, which is just a shame, some MURDERERS and child abusers don't get 10 years. Another fine example of the state our country is in! Anyways!

The first amendment in the American constitution says "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances."

The amendment is that government is to allow religion and politcal thought, it does not deal with taxes.

In the second sentence, it is obvious she believes that Hovind is guilty of tax evasion. Comparing Hovind's sentence with murderers and child abusers is inaccurate.

Each case is different, bearing on the pleading, the evidence and the conviction.

Blog Debating

For the past several months, I have been looking up blogs on Kent Hovind on debating other bloggers about his views on creationism/evolution and his IRS trial and conviction.

There were few bloggers that I found were intellectual in their debating such as Sprittibee, whom I occasionaly check her posts from time to time, and Mike Janitch.

But there are others who have no sense on how to debate. Julia took several weeks to respond to my first comment and it has been several more since my proof of Hovind's errors.

Then there is Fighting For The Truth, who said I was getting into a spitting contest and Color Of My Mind, neither have been updated.

There is Daily Creationism which still dormant after a month and half, probably because he does not want to get into a debate.

There was The Sheep Dog which can confused me if this person was convinced by the opposing arguments or if this was satire.

The Northern Chroncles originally posted my comment on Hovind's video, then he deleted it and then you could not post a comment. I asked him if he thought he was Christian to delete my comment. He never posted that comment but he did allow comments on moderation. Like the others it has not been updated recently.

And finally, there is Amazing Six whose blog on Kent Hovind was deleted after I informed her that Hovind was on trial for tax evasion.

Overall, it has been good way for me to inform about Hovind's lies. Unfortunately, there are people who do not want accept the truth and will continue to live blindly all in the name of God

Principals? No wonder, he will not debate in written form.

In 2005 Hovind claimed, "Spanish conquistadors" in 1571 found drawings of dinosaurs on stones, and "on them you will see people doing brain and heart surgery as well as every known dinosaur clearly depicted. Several hundred of them show humans and dinosaurs together."
I wonder what encyclopedia you can find this information.

Conspiracy theory and post hoc argument

Another conspiracy theory.

During a debate with Farrell Till, Hovind made the following claim about Donald Johanson: "[He] found the leg bones of Lucy a mile and a half away from the head bones. The leg bones were 200 feet deeper in a deeper layer of strata. I would like to know how fast the train was going that hit that chimpanzee."
Hovind continues to make this claim even thoughhe has been informed of this.

"B17 is becoming more difficult to get because the FDA is cracking down on people dealing with B17 because, after all, doctors don't get any money off of this - it's a vitamin. And they [doctors] make a lot of money when you're sick, they don't make any money when you are well. The Bible says the love of money is the root of all evil."
It also states in 1 Timothy 6, anyone who teaches false doctrines has "an unhealthy interest in controversies and quarrels about words that result in envy, strife, malicious talk, evil suspicisions and constant friction between man of corrupt mind."

"I suspect SARS is one of the many, many, many man-made pathogens to purposely lower the human population. That's just what I would suspect. I love my country, I fear my government, okay. There have been all kinds of things produced in the last 50 years in various laboratories - and things like that - that are designed to kill people. Bottom line. I think SARS is probably one of those man-made pathogens, like probably AIDS is the same thing."
SARS was discovered in Asia, and has only been a few deaths in North America.

"My take on what happened with the moon landing was [......] they suspect [sic] that on impact that the cameras would be damaged because back in 1969 cameras weren't, you know, like they are today, as good. So they had a studio set up at CBS to mimic the moon landing. And sure enough the cameras broke and so they flipped, you know, the CBS studio on. Moon landing conspiracy. What about the other moon landings and astronaut James Irwin, who was inspired to try to find Noah's ark?

Like the Twin Towers - they blew it up themselves - and they do that so they can bring in their solution. He wil surprised, when it does not happen.

"When the Twin Towers collapsed do you know what was in the basement? [...] Lots of gold. Do you know where it is? [...] Nobody does. It disappeared. Did those buildings drop down to cover a great crime being committed? Somebody is taking all this gold out of the Twin Tower basement. Makes you wonder."
Who told him that?

"With Pearl Harbour I think our people know full well it was coming. They always have a cover story, of course. [.....] They knew full well Pearl Harbour was going to be bombed. [....] They wanted that to bring us into the war. So I think people wanted very much something like 9-11. Whether those specific buildings or not, I don't know. A lot of shady stuff, like the buildings, I understand, were sold or something or insurance policies taken out, you know, just a few weeks before that. Buildings that hold 50,000 people only had, you know, 3000 killed. Lot of folks were told not to come to work. Somebody knew what was going on."
Evidence to back his claim?

"Oklahoma City bombing was done on purpose. Did you know the Federal Government blew up their own building to blame it on the militias and to get rid of some people that weren't cooperating with the system?"
Another lie.

In a court document the Hovinds referred to the United States Government as "the 'bankrupt' corporate government" and said they were revoking their United States citizenship and social security numbers to become "a natural citizen of 'America' and a natural sojourner."

In reference to a federal 58 count indictment Hovind wanted to plead, "subornation of false muster," but the Judge did not accept the plea. When the Judge pushed for a plea "Hovind said he was entering a not guilty plea 'under duress'."

When asked by the Judge were he lives, Hovind replied "I live in the church of Jesus Christ, which is located all over the world. I have no residence."

Kent Hovind is not only with the law, but also with God.
